Advice and guidance

We believe that prevention is better than cure. That’s why one of CAP and BCAP’s most important functions is to educate and train advertisers on the rules to prevent problem ads from appearing in the first place.

Copy Advice

Copy Advice home page Copy Advice is a fast, free, and confidential service for advertisers, agencies and media owners who want to check how their prospective non-broadcast ads or marketing communication concepts measure up against the UK Code of Non-Broadcast Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing (CAP Code).

Visit the Copy Advice website and register to get access to the full advice database.

It will save you time, money, and help safeguard your or your client's reputation from the negative publicity of an ASA ruling.

Guidance and Help Notes

Broadcast

CAP supports compliance with its BCAP Code by issuing detailed guidance on its application to broadcast advertisements for specific sectors or on particular subjects. Guidance is provided within the BCAP Code and without, in the form of Broadcast Guidance Notes and Help Notes.

Although the ASA does not pre-vet advertising, the majority of TV and radio commercials are pre-cleared before they go to air by Clearcast or the Radio Advertising Clearance Centre (RACC).
