New ad rules on unplanned pregnancy advice

20 January 2012

The Committees of Advertising Practice are today announcing new rules surrounding the advertising of unplanned pregnancy advice services. The changes to the UK Advertising Codes will, for the first time, require services offering post-conception advice on pregnancy, but that do not directly refer women for a termination to make that fact clear in their advertisements.  Drawing on NHS guidance, this is a responsible and positive step that will help protect potentially vulnerable women from being misled at a time when a delay in accessing the information they need could increase the risk of health complications.

CAP’s regulatory statement can be read here.

The evaluation of responses can be found here.
